Protecting world heritage
Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage is an irreplaceable source of life and inspiration.
UNESCO seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage throughout the world, considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.
ICOM is the international organization of museums and museum professionals dedicated to research, conservation, sustainability and transmission to society of the world's natural and cultural heritage, present and future, tangible and intangible.
WHAT IS ICOM?
ICOM is a membership association and non-governmental organization that sets professional and ethical standards for museum activities. As a forum of experts, it makes recommendations on issues related to cultural heritage, promotes professional capacity building, and advances knowledge in the field. ICOM serves as the international voice of museum professionals and raises public awareness of culture through global networks and cooperation programs.

WARNING! Some websites and individuals impersonate ICOM and claim to provide, for a fee, fake certificates of authenticity or certificates permitting the free import and export of African cultural goods in particular. Fake collector's cards are also sometimes offered.
Scammers claim that these certificates relieve the holder of the obligation to present any other documents such as the title deed, export license and certificate, certificate of expertise, certificate of authenticity, etc. They most often operate by telephone, email, and through fraudulent sites usurping the name, logo and appearance of the ICOM institutional site.
